Actually, I was as close to being a ‘local’ of Florence as you can get during my 5 year stay. I studied, worked and played in this artisan city and soaked up all the advantages that come with living amongst the locals.
So how do you know what to do and see in a timeframe of a couple of weeks or even less?
This site is intended to help you discover the best experience possible in whatever timeframe you have setout and, hopefully, cut out some of the anxiety that comes with the unfamiliar: language, food and customs.

Taste and preference are, of course subjective, but I covered a lot of ground over 5 years and I discovered some of the best of the best! It is, in fact, where the Florentines go... the markets they prefer to shop at, the restaurants they prefer to eat at... After all, the locals always know where to find value and Italians, in general, pride themselves on the quality of their Italian lifestyle.
But for every find I discovered, I suffered some misses! Hopefully, I can help you avoid some of those here. Along with the local insight are lots of 'heads up' tips.
I make regular trips back since I am just a 2 hour flight from my second home and my second family. My Italian housemates allowed me an intimate local experience. Their invaluable knowledge was exactly what we all wish we had and I was lucky enough to benefit from. They continue to update me on the news and happenings back in Florence and continue to ask, “When are you coming back again?”
